VIDEO 3. The Pygmalion Effect and the Power of Positive Expectations

The video explains The Pygmalion Effect, that is, how positive expectations influence the good results of students. When teachers have high expectations about the results of the students, the teachers begin to treat them in a different way and that makes them get better results. On the one hand, students are transformed with the expectations of teachers and begin to have a positive image of themselves. On the other hand, I think that their self-esteem is greater and it is that confidence in themselves that makes their performance better.

We can see in the video this Pygmalion Effect through an experiment that supports this theory. It is also said that there are four factors that influence the interaction with students when there are higher expectations:

§  Warmer climate for who teacher have more expectations.

§  Input factor: more material who teacher have more expectations.

§  Response opportunity: more chance to answer for who teacher have more expectations.

§  More feedback for who teacher have more expectations.

From my point of view, I think it is essential for teachers to be aware of the power we have over our students. A teacher must believe in his students, have good expectations about them and encourage them to overcome each day.
